Yves Behar: Design objects that tell stories

Designing has provided Yves Behar with an opportunity to dig up his creative roots and tells us details about some of the most relevant designs he's conceived (the Leaf lamp, the Jawbone headset), and how each of these objects tells a revealing story of creativity and challenge that contributed to their eventual design. Then he turns to the witty, surprising, elegant designs he's working on now — including the "$100 laptop," and how these tell a story as well.

Your Mistakes are Your Best-Selling Points

Startups often have “creation myths” about their early days. But real life is much messier than that. To prove this, former This American Life producer Alex Blumberg recorded nearly every painstaking moment in creating his new podcasting company, Gimlet Media. With plenty of audio examples, Blumberg highlights the ups and downs of turning your creative art into a business, culminating in a cringe-worthy pitch to a venture capitalist.

About Alex Blumberg

Alex Blumberg got his Bachelor's degree from Oberlin College. He then began his career as a freelance radio reporter. The experience he gained as such reporter earned him a position as a producer for the radio and television show "This American Life". After some other collaboration to radio shows, such as the Savvy Traveller, Chicago and National Public Radio, he started Gimlet Media along with Matthew Lieber. Gimlet Media is all about the podcasting business. Blumberg actually documented the whole creation of the company in a series of podcasts called "StartUp." Since then, Gimlet Media has become very successful, raising more than six million dollars through its crowd funding platform Alphaworks. Alex has won a few important awards such as The George Polk Award in Radio Reporting; first place at The Third Coast International Audio Festival; and the Public Radio News Directors Incorporated Award for best radio documentary. He is currently an adjunct professor of journalism at Columbia University.
